Semester Topic: “Dangers from the Ocean – How can we handle the risks and prepare for coastal change?”

In the summer term 2013 researchers from geosciences, coastal engineering, economics, and law jointly investigate oceanic and coastal geohazards and their socio-economic consequences.

The research primarily focuses on large events, e.g. plate boundary earthquakes and associated tsunamis, sudden relative sea level rise, floods and storms. The interdisciplinary team of scientists evaluates the impacts on the coastal zone and develops adaptation strategies against coastal geohazards, based on the analyses of ongoing, recent, and past events.
