13. September 2018 Career Day at Kiel University

Research Careers in Germany - National and European Funding Opportunities

More than 200 young scientists from Kiel and Schleswig-Holstein visited Kiel University on September 12, 2018, to find out about national and European research funding programmes. Experts from the most important German funding organisations attended the event "Research Careers in Germany - National and European Funding Opportunities" and presented their funding lines for research projects in Germany and abroad during and after the doctorate.

"The successful acquisition of third-party funding can be an important building block for the career development of young researchers," emphasise Prof. Lutz Kipp, President of Kiel University. Kipp adds, "It shows that their research ideas are nationally and internationally competitive and developing and pursuing their own research ideas allows them to gain independence".

The participants particularly appreciated personal insights of successful applicants into their success stories and the opportunities for individual advice on funding lines by experts from the German Research Foundation (DFG), the European Liaison Office of the German Research Organisations (KoWi), the Leibniz Association and the Max Planck Society (MPG) as well as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

The "Career Day" is a joint initiative of the Integrated Marine Postdoc Network (IMAP) of the Cluster of Excellence "The Future Ocean", the Continuing Education and Graduate Centers as well as the National, EU and International Research Funding Units of Kiel University. It was organised and carried out by the postdoctoral network IMAP.
