15. March 2017 Postdoc Project Proposal Call 2017 announced

'The Future Ocean' offers funding for up to 20 postdoc projects in Kiel, Germany. Projects will be funded for up to two years. The call is open until May 10, 2017.

The call is addressed to the global community of postdoctoral researchers interested inter- and transdisciplinary marine research. The Cluster seeks project ideas in the thematic areas and integrative themes the marine research alliance in Kiel has identified for the next funding phase for the proposed Cluster 'Future Ocean Sustainability' within the German Excellence Strategy. Hence, the research proposed in the Postdoc Project Proposal Call 2017 shall target the three grand challenge areas Ocean Pressures, Ocean Resilience and Ocean Prosperity, and the integrative themes Digital Ocean and Ocean Education & Lifelong Learning.

Postdoctoral researchers will be offered a lump sum of 100 k€ per year for up to two years to conduct their own research project in the multidisciplinary marine science environment in Kiel. Project ideas will be evaluated based on the scientific quality of the proposed project, the strategic match to the Cluster aims, and the excellence of the proponent taking into account differences in the various disciplines (e.g. natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, humanities, medicine, et al.).

About 50 applicants will be invited to present their project ideas at the Future Ocean Project Conference in Kiel taking place from July 3-6, 2017. Based on the merit of the proposal and how well it fits into the overall Future Ocean research strategy the Cluster will select up to 20 projects to be funded.
