Career Day at Kiel University: National and international funding opportunities for early career scientists

A Career Day for early career scientists at Kiel University was organized for October 2nd, 2013. It was initiated and carried out by the postdoc network (IMAP) of the Cluster ‘Future Ocean’ and strongly supported by the university board. The program was tailored to postdocs and Ph.D. students aiming at an academic career and informed them about how to successfully navigate through national and international funding schemes.

Invited experts from the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the European Liaison Office of German Research Organisations (KoWi) reported on funding schemes for temporary positions for principal investigators and on fellowships available from the DFG and the European Union. Testimonies of successful grantees complemented the program and insights into the evaluation procedure and criteria were provided by a member of the DFG review board. Moreover, experts of Kiel University informed participants about measures the University provides to support grant applicants. As a special service the experts from DFG and KoWi offered individual advising for IMAP members.
