Individual coaching: 'Strategic Planning of Research Careers´

07 February 2019
09:00 – 17:00 h

Leibnizstrasse 3, Room 26

Trainer: Dr. Beate Scholz, SCHOLZ CTC GmbH

Especially in transitional situations of their scientific career, scientists often have the need to reflect on their own position and competencies and to weigh up different career and funding options against each other. This is particularly true in the transition between qualification phases or at the end of the qualification with attainment of the vocation for a scientific management position. Discussions with superiors and in the private space are important at this point, but usually have the disadvantage that the direct interests of the discussion partners influence their views.
This coaching offer therefore takes a fundamentally different approach by focusing on the participant's previous experiences and respective plans. In this respect, it pursues the goal of working together with them to develop strategies for the further development of their scientific careers in the light of their individual objectives.

Central elements:
• Development of short and medium-term career goals
• Development of a long-term career prospectus
• Eventually, derivation of a corresponding funding scheme,
• Resumé feedback

The participants themselves determine the agenda of the respective discussions. In preparation for the coaching, they are asked to provide their CV and formulate questions or concerns. If desired, a 2- or 5-page application exposé or letter of application, e.g. for a professorship, can also be submitted.
In order to ensure adequate preparation, the documents must be made available at least 14 days before the coaching date (by January 24, 2019).
The confidential treatment of the documents according to the DGSVO is guaranteed.

A maximum of 10 coaching sessions (30 min).

All members of IMAP (Integrated Marine Postdoc Network) can participate free of charge. Please register with Gesche Braker (, phone 880-6550) until January 7, 2019 at the latest.
Please note that your registration will be binding.
