Prof. Dr. Carlos Pedrós-Alió

National Center for Biotechnology (CSIC), Madrid, Spain

„At this moment, science offers an exciting path to befollowed with passion and pleasure"

Prof. Carlos Pedrós-Alió is a microbial ecologist at the National Center for Biotechnology (CSIC) in Madrid (Spain). His scientific interest is to understand the ecology of aquatic microorganisms. Lately he uses genomics as a tool to generate hypotheses that can later be tested
experimentally. He also likes to study extreme or unusual environments to
throw light on the functioning of more conventional ones. For example, hypersaline systems, hot springs, or the Polar waters illuminate particular aspects of the ecology of microorganisms, that are more difficult to identify in
temperate marine waters. Another interest is in understanding the diversity of microorganisms, in particular the mechanisms maintaining a large number of rare bacteria in aquatic ecosystems.
He is also interested in outreach, relationships between art and science, biology of spirituality, fiction writing and birding.

Join this "Meet the Prof" event to discuss personally with Carlos Pedrós-Alió in an open, informal session.
