Using the case of Sea Level Rise in Small Island Developing States, the project will investigate how scarce international adaptation finance should be distributed. Although the international community pledged to provide US$50 billion per year by 2020 to support adaptation in developing countries, much less funding is provided to date and adaptation costs in developing countries very likely exceed US$100 billion per year. The project thus aims at justifying prioritization criteria, discussing possible ways to operationalize the criteria and proposing distribution procedures that are both fair and feasible.
