Projects

Current research foci include the analysis of large quantities of oceanographic data - BIG DAT - mainly from CTD and Argo floats. These millions of profiles are scrutinized to better observe and understand multi-annual to decadal changes in the oceans. Basis for these analysis is the isopycnal ocean climatology MIMOC. It was possible to determine changes in water properties around Antarctica threatening enhanced ice shelf melt as well as the description of expanding oxygen minimum zones and globally decreasing dissolved oxygen levels in the oceans. The aim is to further understand origin and processes involved in large scale hydrographic changes in the oceans to better help to predict threats to habitats of marine life.
