I am a volcanologist and responsible for public relations work regarding volcanic hazards within the Helmholtz Initiative "Earth System Knowledge Platform" (ESKP). The overarching aim of my research is the integration of multidisciplinary datasets and, building on this, the development of models that allow quantitative hazard assessments at volcanoes. A strong focus of my work are volcanoes in oceanic settings, for example volcanic ocean islands. Because large parts of the volcanic edifice and the volcanic deposits are submarine, the monitoring and assessment of these volcanoes require both on- and offshore observation techniques. Herein, the integration of insights gained from both approaches is a crucial point.
