I am a Humboldt postdoctoral fellow sponsored by the Cluster of Excellence ‘The Future Ocean’. I aim to better understand the interactions between marine invertebrates and their microbial symbionts by applying “-omic” techniques combined with experiments in situ and in aquaria.
Many marine sponges harbor highly diverse and stable microbial communities shaped by host-specific factors. However, we know little about the mechanism behind the specificity or which mechanisms control the interaction. I hope my research will shed light on the influence of symbiotic relationship with microorganisms on animal ecology, survival and evolution.
