My research interests encompass the evolution of microbial eukaryotes using large scale sequencing and phylogenomics. Microbial eukaryotes or protists living in marine environments are key players in the global carbon cycle and have been shown to encompass a diversity of organisms with special metabolic traits and unique symbiotic relationships. For our understanding of biological processes in marine environments it is crucial to extend our knowledge on these understudied organisms.
