My research focuses on the relationship between halocarbon concentrations (especially bromocarbons) and microbiological activity in the surface ocean of different marine environments. Halocarbons are highly reactive volatile organic compounds and have significant effects on the oxidant chemistry of the atmosphere. My aim is to improve our understanding of biological processes that control halocarbon concentrations in seawater during culture and ship board experiments.
