About the ambition of the RTG "Ocean Justice"
The issue of environmental justice is of increasing concern, both in academic theory and political practice. While specific forms of such claims for justice have been subject of detailed analysis - e.g. climate justice or sustainable development -, others have yet eluded a structured and interdisciplinary approach. This particularly includes the question of ocean justice (or blue justice).
On the one hand, a need for global ocean governance instead of an overexploited "mare liberum" has been recognized. On the other hand, new concepts such as a "common heritage", recognitional justice or the question of human rights in the context of a global ocean are insufficiently specified.

The graduate school (RTG) on "Ocean Justice" seeks to close this gap. It sheds light on claims for justice in the maritime realm by considering three perspective: legal, ethical and spatial. This interdisciplinary approach aims at covering the many faces of justice relevant in humankind's interaction with the ocean, including distributive, political and interactive concerns.
During the FON event, the structure of the graduate school, its mission and the three perspectives will be introduced.

(Invitation and Zoom-Link will be provided via the mailinglist of the Future Ocean Network,
