06. June 2018 European Researchers’ Night 2018

Nacht der Wissenschaft in der KielRegion

"Knowledge is Night!" is the motto of the third Researchers’ Night in the KielRegion on September 28, 2018

The European Commission's confirmation of the funding for the years 2018 and 2019 has just arrived. Each year, on the last Friday in September, the public will be treated to interactive experiments, laboratory tours, workshops, exhibitions, art activities and lectures about current research throughout Europe.

In 2018, more than 40 institutions from science and industry will present their research results in the state capital Kiel until late into the night. As in previous years, there will be more than 100 activities on offer for all ages. In 2019, the research institutions involved will pack bags with experiments and visit the surrounding cities of Eckernförde, Plön, Preetz and Rendsburg in addition to Kiel. "The decision of the European Commission to fund again the Researchers' Night in the KielRegion is a great success. This also acknowledges the good cooperation between the districts of Plön and Rendsburg-Eckernförde and the state capital Kiel, "said the chairman of the supervisory board of the KielRegion GmbH, the mayor of Kiel Dr. Ulf Kämpfer.

The project contributes greatly to sharpening the profile of the region as a location of science and research and making it even more visible on a supra-regional level. "We also want to show young people the possible careers in science available in the Kiel region," said Kämpfer.

Coinciding with the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments, the State Library and the Kunsthalle Kiel (the Kiel art museum) will, among others, also take part in the Researchers' Night for the first time. Another novelty is the science program for school classes in the morning. Minister-President Daniel Günther has agreed to be the patron of the Researchers' Night KielRegion.

Background information:
European Researchers' Night Paris, Madrid, KielRegion: The Researchers' Night KielRegion is part of the "European Researchers' Night" which has been held across Europe since 2005. On the last Friday in September, scientists invite visitors to do research, carry out experi-ments and discover new ideas. The first two Researchers' Nights in the KielRegion were an over-whelming success with more than 23,000 visitors. The European Researchers' Night facilitates direct and personal contacts between the public, science and industry and enhances understanding and appreciation for each other. To this end, the Researchers' Night offers events for young children, for school and university students, as well as for anyone interested in science. Visitors can meet researchers from their region, get insights into their lives and work, and learn more about the importance of research for our everyday life.

Admission is free! A free shuttle will be provided!
