Please note: ISOS does not fund any doctoral positions. Your salary and research will be paid by the working group/ institute/ project you are employed by.
Once you've started your doctorate in Kiel, you can enroll in ISOS.

Have you found an interesting topic? How to proceed?

  • Your first step is to formulate a short draft of your research ideas. Send this, together
  • with your CV and a motivation letter to the supervisor by eMail. Discuss with this
  • person whether they would agree to take you on as a doctoral candidate.
  • Financing is the second step, once you have a supervisor. Are you aware of
  • scholarships or funding programmes that may be available? Discuss funding with
  • your supervisor or contact the graduate school ISOS.

Did you not find the topic you are looking for in the brochure?

  • A wide array of potential supervisors is available from areas as diverse as marine biotechnology, law of the sea, fisheries economics, and environmental ethics. A list of scientists, their research topics and expertise is available online in the category "Members"  (www.futureocean.org).
  • Contact the scientist who fits your interests by sending them a draft of your research ideas, your CV and statement of motivation.
  • Once you have a supervisor, finding funding is the next step. Are you aware of scholarships or funding programmes that may be available?
