The Cluster of Excellence "The Future Ocean" has a unique teaching environment in which the next generation of students with a keen interest in the ocean and its interactions are educated across disciplinary boundaries. The goal of our educational programmes and of our extracurricular activities is to provide research-based disciplinary education and to promote the opportunity for exchange between disciplines and with marine experts.
In the future, the Cluster wants to give all students access to interdisciplinary knowledge about the oceans. Kiel University (CAU), in close cooperation with the GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel, offers three international master's degree programmes in marine and climate sciences. A wide range of elective modules complement these disciplinary programmes: Students who are interested, for example, in the sustainability of the oceans, climate ethics, environmental and resource economics, marine policy or international law of the sea will find many courses on offer. The international and research-based training program GAME (Global Approach by Modular Experiments) rounds off the interdisciplinary and international educational programmes offered by Kiel marine sciences. GAME is a unique project in Germany, in which students receive essential skills in planning and carrying out experiments, in data analysis, in scientific writing and presentation as well as in intercultural communication and teamwork.
