Reconciling family and work in the Cluster of Excellence

Kiel University has been engaged in family-friendly and family-conscious personnel policy and infrastructure for many years. In 2002 the University was certified with the “audit familiengerechte hochschule” (family-friendly university) by the berufundfamilie GmbH and received the certificate for the fourth time in 2013.

Kiel University
The family service of Kiel University advises and supports families, coordinates existing projects and develops new concepts in order to create family-friendly framework conditions.

The University contact is the Family Service Office (Olshausenstr. 40, D-24098 Kiel). Bettina Bolterauer is available for questions on reconcilability of family and work at (+49)431 880 2019.

The Future Ocean
The Cluster of Excellence supports its personnel and members in many concerns regarding reconcilability of work and family. This includes:

  • Child care during Cluster events and meetings
  • Support for business trips
  • Arrangements for work contracts with the Cluster in case of pregnancy and/or parental leave and/or family members in need of care
  • Support at work, for example in laboratories or not being able to work due to pregnancy

In principle the Cluster supports all measures that are offered by the DFG (German Research Foundation) in DFG financed projects, if legally possible.
Contact person for questions and requests in the Cluster of Excellence is Emanuel Söding ((+49)431 880 1604, esoeding@uv.uni-kiel.de)
